My Inspiration is My beautiful Grandmother

From all the love and memories and inspiration my beautiful grandma has provided me, I have collected everything I could find and made a memorial video of my beautiful grandmother. She will always be my grandmother, my best-friend, and a mother to me. I love you and you will be cherished deeply in my heart. I miss you. R.I.P :(

Judith Ayala Barbosa was born on December 30, 1948 in Mayaguez Puerto Rico. Her mother's name is Maria Luisa Ayala and her father's name was Jose Barbosa. She had 4 sisters and 5 brothers. She lived her childhood in the island of Puerto Rico. When she was 12 years old, she traveled to Brooklyn, New York to live with a sister. In New York, she was 21 years old when she married her husband Eduardo Colon. She had my mother Iris Colon. Years later, she decided to move back to Puerto Rico in the town of Ponce. My grandma had her second daughter, my Aunt Jessica colon. My grandma lived a difficult life. My grandma's husband, whom she was so in love with; mistreated her and was very bad to her and she decided to divorce him. Since then the life of my grandma changed. She had to pass through many obstacles and hardships, but she never gave up. Her family always supported her along the way to give her that extra strength she needs. In 1983, out of desperation of trying to give a better life for my mother and aunt; she decided to move to the city of Chicago. My grandma stood for a short time with a family in Chicago until she found a job. She saved up money and rented her own apartment. She kept moving from house to house as the years passed. It was usually because the owner sold their house, infestations of rats and roaches, and many more problems. No matter how difficult the circumstances were in her life; she will always found a solution for everything. She had a great desire in putting her loved ones ahead of her. She will make sure her daughters had a safe place to live, treated with a lot of love, provided food on the table, and everything necessary for them. A few years had passed and on March 21, 1989 I was born.

Then on March 7th 1996, my little brother Alberto Munoz Jr. aka Junie was born.
I always adore my grandma as a child. I was her shadow or her little tail as she called me. We share many great memories and moments. I was always with her, inseparable. She was no ordinary grandma. She was someone special and a beautiful person. She will always be laughing, always dancing, always was so positive, and happy. She had a big heart for everyone and anyone no matter what person they were. She was so random with her great personality and optimistic attitude. She had an imaginary chicken friend named Bobby that wore a red jump suit. I remember her laughing so hard this one night and she told she was imagining a fly with a red jump suit on. I can talk about her forever in how a wonderful person she was. She loved telling stories. She loved life. She was everyone's grandma because she just had a big heart for everyone. All my friends adored her and called her grandma. We would go walking for hours and miles away. I remember one time my grandma woke me up early and we walked nearly 10 miles just to get a soda. She was very silly that way.

Things always went wrong for her, but she still had a smile on her face. She got two heart attacks around the year 2005. Her second one she nearly didn't make it. The doctors almost killed her. They kept putting a lot of anesthetic over and over. They left the operation of her -lungs open. My mom over-heard that they wanted to pull the plug on her. I saw her suffer and in pain. She was left in comma for 3 months and she opens her eyes when I visited her this one time and she smiled at me. The beautiful smile I have ever seen in my life. Since that year, she had so many complications of her health that she just couldn't walk nor do anything for herself. She basically lived 7 strong years that way.

It was March 17, 2011 when I received the most heart-breaking phone call in my entire life. My aunt called me and told me when she got home from work, and found my grandmother Judith Barbosa faced down on the floor. My aunt described desperation scratch markings on her face and the house phone on her hands. She was struggling for her life, but it was too late. No one knows what happen with my grandma, but my mom predicted that her bypass had stopped.

My grandma was only 62 years old. Her funeral was held on my birthday March 21, 2011. That day just reminded me of when my grandma first held me. I found it very weird how the number 21 reflected a lot in her life. She was 21 years old when she got married, March 21, 1989 I was born, and March 21, 2011 her funeral was held on my birthday. I felt like we were very connected.
