I took this short video this morning while the first migrating geese arrived in Friesland...

Dutch State Secretary Bleker (Agriculture) recently amended the Animals (Management and Damage Control) Decree so that as of 1 October it willl be possible to trap large groups of moulting geese in mobile spaces, then gas them. The motion will be brought to the vote in the Lower House today.

For many years wild migrating geese have been welcome and protected in the Netherlands, farmers were given compensation to allow the migrating geese to forage on their land during winter. But now there are too many and our state secretary wants to try to get the numbers down by gassing the birds.
