We did it: Abousfian Abdelrazik Returns Home!
On Tuesday, 30 June, Abousfian Abdelrazik was approached on Ste-Catherine Street in downtown Montreal by a complete stranger. "It was you?! Welcome! Welcome Home!" The scene repeated itself a few minutes later, "Welcome!" Each in turn reached out to warmly shake Abousfian's hand, all three
laughing with happiness.
Similarly, Abousfian's homecoming on June 27th to Toronto and then to Montreal was greeted with joy and tears not only from family and friends but also from many supporters who had never met him before.
Although the mainstream media reports generally down-played the role of the public, focusing instead on legal and Parliamentary action, the truth is that the June 27th homecoming would never have taken place without the concerted action of thousands of individuals across Canada. When he was ready to give up after 3 April, your many solidarity notes kept him from despair and convinced him that his struggle was larger than himself; that, not just for his own sake but for that of many others, he must carry on.
