  • On what album is this??

  • There's no such thing as commerical, only music-you like it or you don't.

  • Pure 60's. Great arrangment.

  • What album:??????

  • @neoconsnightmare3 A fan of orchestrations like you might like some of my 700 playlists. Over 400 musicians have their own playlists & Wes is one of about 20 guitarists listed. 100 genres are represented as well as every year since 1900. It's an archive of the best of 20th century music. As for whether Wes should have done this type of recording - Xavier Cugat said he was just fine giving the public what they wanted & enjoying his nice swimming pool! & nothing well-scored is overproduced! chuck

  • @6468792 LOL...well, I first found out about him my freshman year of college (a million years ago) with "A Day in the Life". I loved the orchestration, and then I dug deeper. I love his small unit work, work with Jimmy Smith and the Sebersky orchestrated stuff equally.

his kind of talent can't be suppressed.

  • @neoconsnightmare3 I certainly don't begrudge him the opportunity to make some bucks ... I just don't think this is representative of his work or his talent...that' s my opinion of course...maybe i am still smarting from buying one of his commercial efforts when i was looking for jazz....

  • @6468792 that's, of course, your opinion. i happen to think that this song ( the entire album) was far from 'overproduced'. the horns and strings are perfect. no, this isn't a 'tight' jazz combo, but it is an excellent example of jazz fusion (emphasis, admittedly, on the 'fusion') and it sounds good to a lot of people.

wes had something like 6 or 7 kids, and up until a few years before this album was put out, he was still working a day job. nothing wrong with giving folks what they want.

  • Just listen to how much body the lower end sounds on his guitar!

  • Wes seemingly never paid a price for commercial crap like this. The arrangement is not to my taste and the tempo is too fast. Little Anthony is worth a listen in this regard. Wes may have influenced a generation or two of guitar players, but even he could be overproduced and make a stinker.
