  • Did they ever gat water out of that old pump?

  • Softens and freshens your taste? You have got to be kidding. It's like saying a bullet through your head softens and freshens your brain!

  • Actually, this ad appeared on "THE HOLLYWOOD PALACE" in 1964 (note announcer Dick Tufeld's voice in the sponsor I.D.)- and Salem's slogan during 1963-'64 was "Salem's {menthol} softness freshens your taste- every time you puff" [Jack Clark also mentioned that in his sponsor I.D.'s on the nighttime edition of "PASSWORD"].

  • ..and soygamer's grandfather is Stan Sawyer, who was best known as "The Voice Of RCA" [second only to Vaughn Monroe] in their appliance ads during the 1950's, occasionally appearing on camera as well. He provided voice-overs for other advertisers as well {Nabisco, R.J. Reynolds, etc.}.

  • the guy who did the voice over for this is my grandfather :)

  • OH WOW! I'm gonna go out and buy a carton of Salems right Now!

  • menthols taste like butt

  • Too bad they're so friggin' bad for you. I never would have quit otherwise.

  • Salems and Kools are the best.
