Obama slams Doctors

that's SO wrong... for docs in primary care, when we refer for an ENT to evaluate for a possible tonsillectomy, we don't get any profit from it! we refer because we believe it's in the best interest of the patient.
this is the problem with healthcare! too many people are interfering with doctors' ability to take care of patients efficiently (e.g. insurance companies, fear of getting sued, etc..). more govt involvement in this area will probably make things worse.

Mr. Uninformed President, I, the surgeon am not "forced" to make a decision regarding patient care, at least not YET.
I am, however, FORCED to fork over $60,000/year to malpractice insurance(zero successful claims in 20 yrs). That's over a million bucks in my career.
Unlike politicians, my decisions are ALWAYS based on what's best for the patient.

@Nipponkoku Lmao! No one goes into medicine PURELY for the money? Where have you been? I know people personally who got into things like that JUST because it's such a high paying field. Know what you talk about. I had that comment on here months ago. I completely forgot about it, But do yourself a favor. Take a chill pill, Take a deep breath, and take a nice walk outside. Maybe getting a life will keep you from getting so pissy over comments from a stranger on a computer from ages back. Thanks.

@supamanxxx So punish all of the doctors! You're truly ignorant. No one goes into medicine PURELY for the money. That has to be to largest misinformed decision one can make -- you'd have to be even more poorly informed than this President. The time in education:money ratio is low. Compare it to law, dental, or business school. We work like slaves forever. Then we make money with extraordinarily high educational debt. Shut the hell up and know what you're talking about first. Jesus Christ alive.

Do you think extending health insurance to children up to age 26 is for the poor? With the current unemployment rate this is a shame.Recent graduates who work part time do not qualify.Only if they DO NOT WORK at all. That's because if the employer offers insurance, which is required by law with 50 > employees, they must pay out of pocket for far inferior coverage. Who's children take a year off after graduation? Who's children are working part-time to find work? Rich kids get quality health care.

Well, he's actually right. Not all doctors I'm sure. But I know alot of them are just in it for the buck, Other than people's good health.

LOL. Who gets their tonsils removed if they have a sore throat?
-
I have a crippling back disease. A Dr wanted to perform a procedure that I found out has a low rate of success. It's really expensive too. but my insurance will pay for it. I declined the procedure because I felt it was a waste of time and money. I think more patients have to think this way. I read that removing tonsils can be cheaper in the long run. But Obama was just making a point.

@mafioso86 Wages aren't higher, US just work longer hours. So higher salary maybe, but not wage.
-
Average wage in USA is maybe 30-40% higher compared to Europe . US doctors are paid 3 times more than European Doctors but US healthcare is much worse than European healthcare.
Long live the inefficient and corrupted US healthcare !

Shouldn't the doctor doing the diagnosis be financially independent of the doctor performing the treatment?
This comment has received too many negative votes show
the president is right. you guys are ignorant.

Well, thank you for your well reasoned addition to this thread. Must've had your triple grande Frappacino today didn't you pumpkin?
Though I think you forgot to call us all Racists too, so must've missed the Oberman indoctrination hour. So sorry for you.
Well, perhaps you could further enlighten us Professor. I can't wait to see what other brilliant tidbits you could share with us poor, ignorant, red-necked, bible thumping, neo-cons... Did I miss anything? Oh yeah, gun loving too!
Moron!

Not so. The Drs. Likely get ~1/10th that amount, none of US think we are GOD, nor do we want to end up injuring patients. Besides, there is such a thing as Peer Review. And in general Drs. must substantiate the criteria for surgery before it will be approved by insurance reviewers.
How is it that Politicians and the public can speak with such certainty when demonstrably wrong???
