MannersMinder is a remote-controlled reward system that uses positive reinforcement for training dogs to behave at home and perform better in competition. By rewarding desired behaviors, the system can be an invaluable tool in helping redirect a dog's focus away from barking at the door, jumping on guests, and begging at the table. The system can also be used to train behaviors ranging from down/stay to coming when called and specialty skills such as contacts, place and go-outs. For more information go to www.premier.com

  • The Manners Minder uses a tone to alert the dog to the treat being dispensed in all modes. The volume can be turned off. If the dog is close enough to see the treat/kibble fall into the tray you could still use it for some training.

  • Yes, the Manners Minder will work if you are on the other side of the door within the same building as the machine.

  • Hi,

Thank you for asking, this is a very good question! The Manners Minder, like any other training tool, can be used in a multi-dog household, but the success of the training depends on the methods used.

  • I recommend training the dogs with the Manners Minder separately and it may be beneficial to use something to show each dog when they should expect their own reward. It could be a different shape for each dog on top of the device or using different volumes for each dog. Manners Minder training in a multi-dog household can take more time than in a single dog situation, but can be very successful.

  • There is a good book on multi-dog household training by Debby McMullen called “How Many Dogs!?” that can be found on Dogwise.com or Amazon.com. The book doesn’t reference the Manners Minder, but the training techniques used are a good reference for your situation. • Thanks for sharing this, may I ask how the "down stay" without the machine?

  • You teach the dog a down-stay on a rug or mat in front of the machine. Initially you keep the rate of reinforcement(treats) high and fixed. Once the down-stay behavior is established you can use the settings on the MannersMinder to lengthen the interval between treat rewards and start to make the rewards dispense on a variable schedule. You change the rate of reinforcement slowly over time until eventually you can fade the use of the machine out.

  • I have a deaf dog; do all of the games involve a tone, or just the first game?

  • Does the remote work if you're outside the door and the treat machine is inside the door?

  • I just got my MannersMinder today and just did the initial exposure to my 2 dogs. My border collie was initially scared of the tone and motor but quickly got over it. After 5 minutes, she fell in love with it and just stares at it waiting for the next beep. My other guy was curious but keeps his distance because my girl quietly blocks it and doesn't allow him near the machine. Have you encountered resource guarding of this device and can it effectively be used in a multidog household?

  • Hi

Im very greatfull for your answer thank you, and sorry for not replying earlier
