Both John McCain and Barack Obama have tapped into the idea of US exceptionalism - the idea that America has a special mission and responsibility for humanity - during their presidential campaigns. It is an idea whose origins lie with the Puritan Pilgrims, America's first settlers. We the People travels to a recreation of the pilgrim's first settlement in the US to explore the impact exceptionalism is having on the presidential race.

  • What mission would a bunch of racists have?

  • look man why dont you actully produce evidence instead of just chatting rubbish. i dont care which king you're talking about, im no spokesperson on behalf of kings who died centuries ago. i only speak for my religion so unless you have proof dont bother me.

i trust you understand that (lol i hope you understand that)

  • Read the history before you start your bs. They were NOT allowed under Islamic law. The king had to change the law to allow them to be drafted.

  • lool its that the only thing you have to say in your defence? quite funny actully.

they whent actully forbidden to join the army thats just something you're fanatsising, it isnt compulsory for them to join however if they have a strong sense of wanting to defend their home land they can.

  • Considering there are only a handful of countries in the world today that use only Islamic laws, you do have a reason to smirk. However, you forgot that Islam is 1400+ years old. Take Ottoman empire, for instance. Non Muslims were forbidden to serve in the military.

  • clearly you have troubles reading my comments. i never said indonesia is an "islamic country" i said it has three laws one of which is islamic, and from seeing the fact that indonesia is a majority muslim nation it is favoured much more then the other laws.

again your discrimnation theory isnt working. find me one islamic law which says muslims are allowed to beare arms but non muslims are not.

i dare you to find it :)

  • No, I said their constitution did not mention Islam. If you are a Muslim and you want to practice Shariah in your day to day life, who is there to argue. However, if your Shariah law says you can own a gun but the constitutional law says you can not, who wins? That is how you know Shariah is NOT the law of the land in Indonesia.

I never said forbidding civilians from bearing arms is "discriminatory". I said allowing Muslim to bear arm and non-Muslim to bear arm is "discriminatory".

  • "so of course it is most commonly used" so now you're going back on what you said previously on indonesia not having shariah law?, what excatly are you saying?

"is it religious police? Is there religious police in Indonesia?", which ever party amongst the two, i keenly support.

forbidding civilians from bearing arms is not "discriminatory". it is used to keep peace and order in society.

how you can even begin to call that as "discrimination" is only akin to a poorly chosen joke.

  • I did do research and that is how I know you are stupid. Shariah is "the body of Islamic religious law" so of course it is most commonly used. It "deals with many aspects of day-to-day life, including politics, economics, banking, business, contracts, family, sexuality, hygiene, and social issues."

However, what law prevent individuals from carrying weapons? Is it enforce by civic police or religious police? Is there religious police in Indonesia?

  • whats the matter?, being asian yourself i thought you had better knowledge of the area and its political affairs.

next time plz try to speak with knowledge instead of just guessing things.
