A mixture of vibrant colour and influences from the past will be the fashion flavour at the race tracks and Melbourne Cup day parties this year.

Ruffles, rosettes, prints and accessories will all feature in a big way, with styles ranging from the Maxi dress to the more tailored look.

Neutral colours are in for the men, with grandpa hats a popular match for cropped pants and pointed toe shoes. Westfield Carindale stylist TANJA MRNJAUS says it's best to choose the outfit first and then look for a suitable fascinator or hat.

Something different this year is the 1920s inspired flapper head band , a great alternative to the hat or fascinator.

Now, 5:30 pm audiences in Brisbane (across all channels) have the lowest level (per captia) of all markets. Most former Extra viewers simply save their money and don't switch on at all now.
