Just my opinion on why US motorcycle riders should consider joining the AMA (American Motorcyclist Association). I also get my letter "R" for the SBC.

  • Interesting I will look into it !

  • @navythomas8 I think it is worth it, your mileage may vary. :D

  • the first thing i saw when that muffler law came into mention was people talking about how to get a stamp, regardless of how loud their pipes are...

actually seeing bikes go by which are so loud they set off car alarms, i have a hard time with various justifications.

then again.. if you can make that 40 up in savings, wtf.. :)

  • @dv8tion242 Yeah politics aside, they have some decent benefits if you use them. I just ordered some new boots from Bike Bandit. Reg price $300. With the discount for AMA members I paid $270 (plus $8.95 shipping). Other places had the same boots for $300 and free shipping but heck I still saved $21, half of my annual AMA membership on this one purchase. :D

  • @RC62 Same for me. Been a member for a few years. Between bike bandit and hotels on long rides, it has MORE than paid for itself.

  • @EverydayRiding Glad to hear you are a fellow AMA member! :D

  • @imthepcguy Yep, the AMA pushes for better awareness programs and even wants motorcycle awareness to be part of normal driver license training and testing.

  • @britex3186 Hum... I wonder if they will ever plug that loop-hole by fining multi-offenders? I wish that here they would implement standard noise testing as supported by the AMA. The EPA cert is really a dumb way to enforce it and will cause after-market muffler makers to go under. I was reading that some localities in areas other than California are implementing EPA stamp laws. While I love the low rumble of a well tuned engine, really loud bikes have caused this slew of stupid laws.

  • In Victoria, Australia they have noise laws. The officer issues a ticket, then you have four weeks to go have the bike tested, then return to the court and show the bike either complies or not.....problem is you can put your stock exhaust back on, have it tested and show it complies. Get the ticket dismissed, then put the aftermarket back on some time later. It does inconvenience you some but it saves points on your license.

  • @KeukaRyder hehe... I think everybody is crazy. The smart ones (like us) know it. LOL
