One-hit-wonder for Larry Raspberry and his Memphis combo.
The production team thought the song running at 1:32 was way too short. So they added a drum-roll and spliced in the first recorded verse again!

  • Ahhhhh!!! I used to live two houses down from Jimmy Hart and remember when they used to practice on his side porch. I was about 6 years old at the time. Fell off my bicycle when he waved at me.

  • @hhelyer Great memory! We all love tales like this. Thanks

  • I used to stand on the throttle of my screamin' '56 Chevy whenever this song came on. I don't know why it turned me into a maniac. Stll can't explain it. I loved this song that much!

  • This might seem like an odd thing to say in this high-tech-is-better era, but I love the scratchy record sound as part of the listening experience.

  • it sounds more like a late 50s song than a mid 60s song

  • i.m glad they put the first part of the song again.otherwise this song wouldn't been a big hit for them(#4pop 1965).this song rocks :)

  • I remember summer 1986 when me and my friends was cruisin around in a chevy impala and listened to this song ,over and over.

  • This was covered by the Bay City Rollers on one of their albums.

Come to think of it - may've been a single too!

But they had a key change in the middle!

  • I was too young to drive when this was big but on the Skating Rink floor I would skate all out throughout the whole song only to be so tired when it was over. I love this song as it reminds me of beautiful Linda Staphens. Her parents would take me and my sister with their famuily skating several timea per month. Wow times were sure good then.

  • all of these guys except for one graduated high school with my sister in 1965TreadwellHigh School). I graduated there in 1974, but I remember seeing them at my first concert in 1965 at the Treadwell High Schooll auditorium. LarryRasberry(he's still in the music business). Sand lead and played all guitars. He was often compared to Rick Derringer as Hang on Sloopy by the McCoys came out about the same time. they looked alike and could both play a great guitar.

  • @casyjones01 Me too! I am 34, actually, but this music beats ANYTHING today!
