I defy any modern violinist to perform with this panache 70 or otherwise. Some of our greats are now in their 60s and they can't play two notes in succession in tune.

Thanks so very much...I greatly enjoyed!

Important to remember that by the time Kreisler agreed to broadcast (he and Rachmaninoff had pledged each other never to do so, and only Rachmaninoff's death freed Kreisler from this agreement) Kreisler was going deaf and had been hit by a truck in NY City that caused extended amnesia. The broadcasts are treasurable but not Kreisler at his absolute best.

...this grand violinist was young once...as a youth, I thought he was always 70 years old......the pictures are mostly as an older man.......and to hear him speak, its like going back to Vienna in 1920.....the salons, the chamber music....and Toscanini at age 53......what an era......
