Lapindo Mudflow is a really tragic disaster for those living in the area. It started when a mining company named "Lapindo" failed when trying to dig out from the land. Instead of the resources they wish to find, mud and harmful flammable natural gases flowed out from the digging hole in such a great force that engulfed countless of houses and farmlands making this area really dangerous and forced many residents homeless. The impact of this disaster is tremendous, as this has disrupted the economic flow in East Java since the only highway connecting Surabaya and the easternmost region of the Java Island including Bali was engulfed too.
This was a field trip taken by a group of students of 15th senior high school in Surabaya, Indonesia, in order to discover this infamous tragedy and spread the truth to the world.

  • It was a dangerous place to live before the drilling, and the rock that was holding this mud under pressure must have been very fragile.

The drilling company did not put the mud there, in fact they were trying to make it safer by taking the natural gas away !
