I love Kinky and I've always enjoyed hearing this song, but I think it would've been better in this context, if the visual footage were from a live concert of him singing it; I've always known the background here, but it's one thing to summon that background from the bog of one's cultural memory and historical distance, and another to see a woman, with a hole blown into her bloody chest, being loaded into an ambulance. The details adds a layer of immediacy that makes it impossible for me laugh.
I think it was that gifted comic artist of the macabre, Gahan Wilson, who, when in a discussion about the boundaries of taste, obscenity, etc, mentioned that he found something very disturbing or hard to accept (I don't recall exactly what he said).I think he wanted people to raise their consciousness of what was really worth being repulsed by, rather than ordinary MOR fear of grossness. He pointed out that Whitman had packed his deodorant in his bag, so he wouldn't offend.
i read the psychiatrists were prescribing him Dexadrine which was proven to have the same properties of methamphetamine
