The Bible writers spoke as if God has emotions, and most Christians through history have spoken and behaved as if this were true. But to understand what that means you have to understand what emotions are. And that requires a small excursion into the history of psychology and the budding field of brain science.

  • I think the purpose of this video is to show that our mind and our emotions have evolved and serve a very specific physical purpose. The emotion of anger exists only because of the physical, hormonal and psychological changes that are necessary for survival. Love serves as much a naturalistic purpose as the intestine. Basically god's as likely to have a pair of balls as he is to feel love.TD has just shown that the idea of a person god is as ridiculous as god watching this on the toilet!!

  • @icandodgebullets86 - Thank you. It sounds so harsh doesn't it.

  • At 00:48, you made a very serious request regarding theists watching this. You wanted them to 'think'. Big request. Dogma brings autobot behaviour. No thinking required or allowed. If they did allow their brain to analyze the dogma, without fear of damnation, they can only come to one conclusion. That process has been attempted many times by the average religiously brainwashed person, but that conclusion is uncomfortable and scary. Hence, they continue to disallow reason and logic.

  • A god has no need for a penis? Try telling that to Zeus!

The ancient Jewish Shiur Komah literature, make sit clear that Yahweh's penis is several hundred thousand miles long. If he doesn't need it, what's he doing with it?

  • Emotions are qualia, and nothing in science provides, or is ever likely to provide, any basis for explaining qualia. The only thing science explains is the structure and relationships between qualia. But I do love this video anyway as anti-religious person :P

  • @jaroslavkourakin Or let me put it this way. There are feelings that arise by themselves, and there are emotional responses due to our conditioning. The latter is actually fear and does as well manifests itself in false love.

  • One needs to differ between true and false emotions. And unfortunately for atheists, they are stuck in the matrix of false emotions.

  • this is amazing!

  • Wonderful videos! I'm going to share them with everyone I can!!

One thing... the section on primary emotions is fine for this video, but ultimately incomplete. If you want a more in depth look, the Wikipedia page is actually pretty good or look up Robert Plutchik. The SEP is good too, found by searching Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy - Emotions (in a search engine).

  • @ofosusam She has one book already. it's called Trusting Doubt - a former evangelical ..." you can prob find that on amazon or other book store sites. thank ya!

  • @TruthSurge Absolutely fantastic. keep those videos coming. very educational. I will be watching with my kids. This is deep stuff. And you have a book coming out? When and where? Tell us about that, please.

  • Couldn't you argue that God having emotions would be more for us than him?

He would choose to have them so we could better relate to it, and it to us.

  • Thank you for a well constructed look at both physiological psychology and the God concept. You have another subscriber.

  • Excellent.
