I do think Commander Sullenberger qualifies for a hero.
Not because of what he did on the flight 1549 though. He did what he was trained to do and what any other pilot as well trained might have done. Many of the crashes that ended in loss of life did so because the conditions of the emergency did not allow any room for the pilot to do otherwise. Sully is a hero because he trully is. Because of what he has been doing and saying after the disaster. Like in this video.

America hasn't had a real hero for awhile. Glad he came through

He was absolutely right. Like most real life heroes, they do not see themselves as such. Most of them respond with the heartfelt, "I was just doing my job/what I thought was the right thing to do" and are almost embarrassed to be called heroes. Capt. Sully understands that his actions and this incredible story has brought some much needed hope to a city and country that desperately needs and craves it, especially considering the painful moments NYC has had to endure. Good job, cap'n & crew.

Another example of excellence is found in the ill-fated flight of Apollo13. (BTW, I'm refering to the actual flight here; not the movie script) Listening to the exchanges between the the astronauts and Mission Control, after the explosion which blew out 13's KRIO systems, the audio might give the impression that the engineers and flight controllers at Mission Control, and the flight crew aboard 13 were on Valium. Not what people might expect, but excellent nonetheless.

I think that it may "creep you out" because his demeanor is not what people are conditioned to believe it should be. It seems natural enough to expect to see more emotions displayed; but that is not what makes for an excellent pilot. a pilot has to keep his / her emotions in check; mental and emotional discipline and focus upon the job at hand is what is needed to keep people alive. During an in-flight emergency, the cardinal rule is "Fly the plane first".

I saw tears well up when that last letter was being read.
I'm a nurse and have seen my share of tragedies and we are expected to do our crying elsewhere. And I'm a guy and I do cry. I had people comment on how I seem unfeeling or professional. For victims of these tragedies and for people who are going to look at Sully being too emotional might have concern when he flies again. Life goes on because of and in spite of us.

It is called a heart of steele, much like a warior...experienced and seasoned. Much like a soldier or a martial artist.
We have that same deameonor, calm cool and collected. I wouldn't fault him on deamenor
I tip my hat to him....
Thats why I put the video up....
however the more I see him in interviews...
he sort of creeps me out.
his demeanor is emotionless ?
I dont know where that comes from.
anyone else notice this ?
