The Mechanics - featuring the late great Al Hodge - performing "If I Make My Own Bed" at Marjons, Plymouth. Not sure of the exact date - early 80's though I'd say. Lead Guitar/Vocals: Big Al Hodge Bass Guitar: Dave Quinn Drums: Alan Eden
Miss the ole bugger, still, Thanks for great tea, the best sandwiches, and the company of one of the kindest souls it was ever my privelage to call friend.
I played support for Al a few times at the cooperage plymouth, He was painfully unrecognised by all but those local to him. A true star and when you look at what 'makes it' nowadays it is a travesty, but I think he enjoyed his life and what a talent to call his own for a while. rip Al
Many thanks for posting these video's. I'm still reeling to find that Al has gone. I hadn't had contact since 2005, and had planned to go see him the next time I went to Cornwall. Just shows you shouldn't put these things off. He was a great inspiration to me as a young guitarist, always prepared to show me something on the guitar if I asked. Invitied me to his home and to the Sawmill studio, was a great day. Still trying to catch up with his guitar playing after 25 years! A huge loss for Kernow
Awesome, Haven't heard this track in over 20 years. I remember my dad supporting them in Perenporth, I played trumpet mentored by another lost hero Spike in Jack Russell and the Terriers. Anyway, when they came on they were so powerful, so loud!
Even though I was underage at the time I still remember them as being one of the most energetic bands of my early years, I even remember that great Roland Chorus sound he used to use, and here it is - proof!
