Vernie Leroy Davidson, 82, of Callaway, MN, died Thursday, December, 9, 2010 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Vernie was born September 30, 1928 on the family farm in One Road Township, Roberts County, South Dakota. He was the youngest son of Albert and Minnie (Odahl) Davidson. He attended country school through the 8th grade. As a young man, Vernie worked with his brothers doing farm work and learning carpentry. And soon after, he enlisted in the army during the Korean conflict. Upon moving back to Montana, he met Irene Hanson and they were married in Seattle, Washington on August 3rd, 1951.
Vernie worked briefly for Boeing in Seattle before relocating back to Montana where he did farm work and various construction jobs.
In 1968 Vernie and Irene moved their family to Minnesota to start a dairy farm. Later, he started a drywall company and taught many young people his trade, including his children.
Vernie was a self-taught musician and played both the violin and the accordion.
He enjoyed fishing, reading, wood-working and playing cards with friends and family. Vernie loved spending time outdoors cutting firewood, and he especially loved gardening. In the spring he would start plants from seeds and grew the most incredible flowers and abundant variety of vegetables.
Vernie was hard working and fun loving. You could always count on him to make you laugh!
He is survived by his wife, Irene, of 59 years; his children Sheri (Bruce) Crain of Froid, MT; Carol (David) Foltz of Detroit Lakes, MN; Demcy (Sandi) Davidson of Calloway, MN; La Donna (Brady) Finnicum of Velva, ND; 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; a brother Albert (Elma) Davidson of Billings, MT; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; three sisters, two infant sons, Kelly and David; one daughter, Tammy, and a son Clay.
