Il pleure dans mon coeur
Comme il pleut sur la ville;
Quelle est cette langueur
Qui pénètre mon coeur ?

Ô bruit doux de la pluie
Par terre et sur les toits !
Pour un coeur qui s'ennuie,
Ô le chant de la pluie !

Il pleure sans raison
Dans ce coeur qui s'écoeure.
Quoi ! nulle trahison ?...
Ce deuil est sans raison.

C'est bien la pire peine
De ne savoir pourquoi
Sans amour et sans haine
Mon coeur a tant de peine !

  • C'est vraiment magnifique.

  • We were shown this in French today, because we have to learn the poem. This is a much nicer way to listen to it than a boring guy from some college! Thanks!

  • Fantastic! I would never imagine hearing this poem as a song sung so soulfully. Thank you. Here is its English translation for those to enjoy a beautiful song. Ariette It's falling down softly on the village. Arthur Rimbaud. It's crying in my heart Like it's raining on the village; What is this languidness That penetrates into my heart?

  • Oh! the gentle noise of the rain, On earth and on the roofs! For a heart getting bored, Oh! the song of the rain! It's crying without reason In this heart that's falling ill! What! Never betrayed? This grief is without reason. It's better to have pain Than not to know why, Without love and hate, My heart feels more pain. Paul Verlaine. from Romances sans paroles
