Like said below try before you pry. Also train, this guy had no idea how to open this hood after his first attempt failed. Get junk cars and train on them. Halogen and bolt cutters best tool to open a hood.
I agree with you jlynch.. First thing I noticed is where was his BA? Regardless whether it was a small fire or not, should always have a BA on because you never know what is burning. The hood cable was probably burnt through seeing where the fire was so hence the prying action. Should of just busted the grille through first to look as not to wreck the top of the front bumper or anything underneath the hood.
What do you think the cab of the truck was going to have backdraft conditions in it? There is no reason he could not open the cab and in fact someone DID open it shortly after he try prying it and there was NO FIRE NEAR THE DRIVER'S DOOR LIKE YOU SAID. Definitely should have taken the couple seconds to open the cab and pop the hood. And as for the smoke in the cab, he should have had his pack on in the first place!
I think that is funny how u think he didn't try before he pried.. did you not see him stick his hand in to try the hood latch? And that factor that there was smoke in the cab of the car would tell me to not try to find the hood release in the cab because you would introducing air into the cab... Better to jack a hood up then hurting ur Fire Fighters. Either way, that fire was right at the drivers door anyway. I got one more week at Louis F. Garland TX and I'll be working in Maryland.
damn right i'm not trying to put a brother down but the jackass pryd b4 trying the hood release in the cab.i mean duh you done screwed it up now if he hadn't pryd more than likely it would have opened right up.
