MA State Representative Martin Walsh speaking at the State House on 3/18/2008.

Starting out Rep. Walsh says that he would support making alcohol illegal.

He moves on to the disproven propaganda about marijuana being a gateway drug. He also seems to completely ignore the fact that people in his own district are having trouble finding work after being arrested for one joint, 10 years ago.

And somewhere in the rant, Walsh blows off the majority of voters in his district (57%), who have voted for marijuana decrim.

Is this guy for real?

Responding to Mr. Walsh is Paul Breeden of

We are making progress and we could have decriminalization if you contact, email, call, write, the Governor and your legislators.

If you've contacted them before contact them again!

If you've never contacted them just do it!

The State's Election Information page
http://www.wheredoivotema.com/bal/myelectioninfo.php
provides up to date contact information on your elected officials (telephone
numbers, e-mail and postal addresses).

Then drop him or her a note (postal service or e-mail) and then follow up with a phone call. Or vice versa.
Please let MassCannBeNORML@aol.com
know your legislators' responses.

Email can also be sent directly from the NORML website.

We recommend you customize your message as time allows.

Some legislators probably place more weight on paper mail, but it is hard to know for sure.

Use the specific bill numbers where appropriate.

  • Go Martin Walsh...the crowd pushing for legalization has no concept of the damage drug use is causing in our communities. "When will they ever learn." YOU know what you're talking about, they don't.

  • I know the damage, why I want it legalized. How many can't get a job because they have CORI's? I know! Go Walsh? Prohibition creates more problems and addicts! Some like Martin Walsh can't handle certain substances, they need rehab. But how do you say prohibition works when the country that has waged the war the most has the most drug problems? THE USA. Cigarette use in MA is down for teens & adults. Nobody arrested to make that happen. And pot use in MA? Skyrocketing before decrim.

  • Updated the info "About This Video" section with links to two places that will get you the emails, phone numbers of your elected reps. Just plug in your address and go. The NORML link is the easiest to find, and use a ready to go email to send it over instantly. If you live in MA, contact your reps, hit the links.

  • wait I'm kind of confused. was this meeting on weather or not marijuana should be decriminalized in mass? if so did it pass?

  • It was a hearing. There is a marijuana decrim ballot initiative that will likely be on the state ballot and binding for the Nov. Presidential Election in Massachusetts. The State House can pass their own bill before that time, one bill has been passed through their committee. So they take testimony from all sides on it and we wait to see. The ballot initiative in November is huge. VOTE YES.

  • Certifiable lunatic, our jails are overcrowding as it is and this douche can't make the connection between our drug laws and our filled to capacity prisons.

  • Same tired ass "reefer madness" hogwash. Don't these morons realise how far ahead of them the public is? People KNOW it's not a gateway drug, and that it doesn't kill brain cells or cause lung cancer. People KNOW about the health benefits. People KNOW nobody has ever overdosed or died as a direct result of smoking pot. These politicians on THAT side of the debate need to wake up and smell the 21st century.

  • @papajew123 It passed on the ballot initiative. You can have up to an ounce in MA now and only get a fine. $100

  • You're calling me "ignorant" but you don't know how to use the singular possessive? I am sure that teachers told you: it's "Walsh's." But then, maybe you were distracted by other things when you should have been learning.

I wonder: what could it have been?

  • Don't be so ignorant. Mr Walshes view is so narrow minded that he is going against his constituents and the medical community. I understand that he believes what he's doing is right but he's a representative for the people and if he won't do his job then he needs to be removed. Since he offered no facts to back up his rambling he should probably refrain from speaking in public. Douche!

  • Nothing personal against Representative Walsh, I'm sure he's a nice guy and I know people who like him. I don't hate the guy. But he was preaching some reefer madness here and basically saying that people he doesn't know are crazy for supporting rational policy. It's not about Martin Walsh but the ideas and solutions. Mr. Walsh on this day offered no solutions on this.. But people go crazy on pot! which is a falsehood for the vast majority..

  • Did I just hear "In my district, more than 1/2 of my constituents voted in favor of the decriminalization of the possession of marijuana, and I'm going to do everything I can to kill it?"

In what world is this good representative government?!

  • He sounds like a little spokesperson for law enforcement.
