  • Autoplay with no opt-out is BAD.

    But I found a part-fix.

On Firefox I installed Greasemonkey and then I installed the userscript titled:YouTube Auto Buffer & Auto HD & Remove Ads

This worked! It lets me configure autobuffer too. But I would like YouTube to just give us the options without having to resort to scripting.

  • @youtubesneak Just using Flashblock or NoScript with the Flash options set the right way will kill the problem.

  • I hate Autoplay as it starts the next video while I am typing a comment... I have accidently put the wrong comment on the second (autoplayed video). If I am interacting with the page still then then I want to be left alone. Good Video response. :-)

  • Hey, at least you have control over it when you use Firefox. Heh.

  • I'm not a fan of autoplay either! And I absolutely despise music that blasts on webpages! That alone will make me leave ANY webpage...LOL

  • An old pal's wife is a graphics designer by trade. I recently had to go over there and straighten out a network problem they were having, and she mentioned that she wants to redo her commercial web site. I was shocked to find the whole thing was done in Flash, complete with movies and noises. Oy! No wonder she wants a fresh site!

  • Well, the need for this whole thing is pretty much gone now, but the analysis is still valid, methinks.

  • I agree with you Marty.

  • Heh. Hey, I think those are a distraction, also, but I'm just Some Old Fart. They fall into the same category as those dumb air fresheners that hang from the rear view mirror, always swinging around right in your peripheral vision. After enough time your eye learns to ignore motion from that sector of your driving vision, so when a kid runs out from the sidewalk chasing a ball you don't see him. You do, however, hear the crunch.

  • Sometimes those distractions, as you say, are the information that the site owner wants you to see or hear. I understand your point, but it's almost like you're criticizing those guys with the wheels that continue to spin after they stop their pimp-mobiles. ;]
