Zydrunas Savickas aka BIG Z is perhaps the strongest man that ever lived. There are some who would argue this point. Even he himself in an interview has stated that he believes Bill Kazmaier to be the strongest man that's ever lived. I have always found these arguments to be very interesting. What weights would Louis Cyr, or Paul Anderson have hoisted if they'd had access to the performance enhancing drugs and training of today, and the surgical techniques that have allowed these giants to continue competing after what would have been a career ending injury only a decade or two ago. If you believe that man has only been around since the garden of Eden, how large were some of these people with the genetics that had not been watered down by the processed foods and intermixing of genes since the beginning. Are we now only thru science getting back to what our true physical potential was, and what is to come. After this years World's Strongest Man competition seeing a new champion in Brian Shaw who's full potential is still only partially realized its an interesting subject to ponder. What will the future hold as giants such as Shaw and the likes of Thor Bjornsson hold. I think in the near future this sport will come to the forefront and will see its popularity grow at a rapid pace. I know for me in my life I've seen many men young and old who are hardly aware of strongmen events or even powerlifting and yet casually stroll into the gym on an infrequent basis and squat over 500lbs in their teens and bench 500lbs + in their early twenties. I've talked to several, and they simply dismiss it, and return to their everyday jobs outside of sports. I love the possibilities to come.

  • Well put, but since Zydrunas out weighs him by more than 100lbs and hasa 3X his strength and several world titles, Ilguaskas will have to take a back seat on this one I'm afraid:)

  • Agreed!

  • No I don't, I didn't get to attend the finals due to the rescheduling of the event. I think Z only did maybe 6 or 7 reps of 715lbs here to win his group. He could have done more.

  • have u got his 442,5 kg deadlift video?

  • Here's some links with vid and the blog has a lot of stats.

  • Sorry it won't let me post links. but lookup user mtsfitness and WIN World's Strongest 2011 blog.

  • @ShroomeD112 This guys name is Zydrunas Savickas lol 2 entirely different people

  • @MerchAllDay He wore shorts and straps of the suit squat , qualsiasi attrezzatura è consentita

  • Are u sure Big-z? Big-z is also retired Nba player Zydrunas Ilgauskas

  • @powerful1677 He deadlifted 972 in the rain and he reportedly has a higher squat than his dead lift. This was a very awkward bar/apparatus. Some of the guys here also wore shorts so i bet he isn't allowed to have equipment

  • this guys got glutes

  • perfect form

  • @powerful1677 I am pretty sure suits were not allowed. I believe these are rehband warm pants. Just neoprene shorts.

  • Looks LIKE Briefs and a Rolled down suit still strong, but with that kind of gear you can expect at the least 150 lbs. of help at the bottom the top would still be 715 just the facts mam!
