  • OMG! Do you guys own stock in a watermark fluid company? In some cases, you can lay the stamp in a black watermark tray as pictured and you can see the watermark without fluid if you observe from different angles. If you can discern nothing, then, and only then should you use fluid (been using Ronsonal for over 50 years and have yet to damage a stamp). Moistening the stamp with several drops of fluid will generally do the trick. I use a Morley-Bright detector as well which is a dry system.

  • Watermark fluid is usually an unrealistic financial way to find watermarks. You have a whole field of controversy over the use of fluids vs lighter fluid. Lighter fluid is by far the most economical method to use. You also have to remember that all fluids have the potential to damage a stamp and you must weigh this fact into the equation. Any hi-value stamp should be assessed the most safe way possible.
