I see what you're saying if you're using the Axial pieces, but most of us use the Traxxas pieces and the edge of yoke is rounded much more than the edge of the female shaft.
No hard lip at the rear, to catch on rocks?. What about the raised area around the base of the yolk, at the diff end of the rear shaft?. If you place the female end of the shaft at the diff end, that lip is reduced down where the rocks are, and there is less chance of hooking up, and damaging the shaft's splines against a rock.
