Beef Empanadas is another favorite Latin American snack. It's a meat pie, or sort of a meat turnover. Found in every Spanish-American restaurant or grocery store snack/coffee counter, Chef Remy shows how you can make your own. Using the same dough rounds used for Chinese foods, the Empanadas can be deep fried, pan fried, or baked in a 400 degree oven for 20 minutes. The filling is simply ground chuck with onion, bell pepper, garlic, diced potato, cumin, and a Spanish tomato base found in most grocery stores' ethnic foods section. In other videos, Chef Remy shows how to make Chicken Empanadas.

  • As a Chief Master Chef with 30 years’ experience and 422 cooks in my kitchen, your disrespectful comment forced me to take Websters Dictionary off my shelf and look up the word “cretin”. It says, “with no brain”. Why? Couldn’t you read the name SOFRITO on the bottle? Couldn’t you see the spatula? As a Chef, I’m allowed to be rude. So, I say it real loud “Get your punk ass out of my kitchen and go learn some respect!!”. Chef Remy C=:-)

  • I try to make very short, concise, and to the point videos because my mentor says folks will play several times to get it done and serve. I cut me out because I will eventually do voice-over in eight languages. Also no music of fanfare. Glad you agree. Thanks, Chef Remy C=:-)

  • I love empanadas, but don't have them often because I always fried them and it was a bit greasey. Your way, baking them seems more healthy, I an definitely making these in the oven. Thanks for teaching me a new technic.

  • Somewhat insulted by this Remy person, can't even explain what cooking tool he was using. And by way, one if the ingredients was sofrito and he could explan that. I'm HISPANIC and if you really can't truly explain what ingredients you are using or tools, GET OFF THE WEB.

  • You are a very good teacher. My Mom used to make beef empandas when I was little, but she is on such a strict diet she doesn't make these any more. I'm going to try baking these with ground turkey instead of beef. Have you tried that with turkey instead of chicken?

  • Goya sofrito is commercially produced "Puerto Rican" (not Latin American) sofrito.
