I have been planning this for quite a while, but what finally inspired me to do it as the sudden death of Steve Irwin (R.I.P.) This was something I HAD to make. It is a song that Queen recorded especially to for Freddie Mercury who had died of AIDs, and it is a song about only the good dying young. This is a tribute to ALL those who died young, not just the people in my video, but the people I picked were well known example of good people who died before their time. These people are, in order:

Jonathan Larson: The writer and creator of the revolutionary and heart wrenching rock opera, RENT, who died of aortic aneursym just weeks before the show opened on Broadway.

Richard Beckinsale: Actor in the popular comedy series "Porridge", also starring Ronnie Barker, and father of Kate Beckinsale. He died of a massive heart attack at home at the age of 31.

John Lennon: Beatles singer and songwriter. Peace activist. Shot dead by a crazed fan at the age of forty.

Steve Irwin: Wildlife conservationist, and star of the ever popular TV programme "Crocodile Hunter". Killed in a freak encounter with a stingray whilst filming a wildlife documentary at the beginning of September this year. He was 44.

And of course, Freddie Mercury. One of the most amazing talents ever in the history of popular music. A great songwriter and a superb singer. Died after a long battle with AIDs in 1991, at the age of 45.

R.I.P. every single on of them, and every single other person who died young.

  • Nice tribute to those four.... but it was such a small and ecclectic mix of personalities ... I wonder why these were chosen, and others not, in a fairly long 4 minute song .... nice job in any case.

  • I hope it doesn't seem like I'm only referring to these four people; I decided that I would be able to put more heart into the video if I chose a crosss section of people who have had the greatest influence on my owen life. This song conjures these people to me, and I hope everyone who sees this will be able to think of someone who really emulates the words of the song. I'm glad you liked it in any case...I like people liking my videos! :) x.

  • just to let you know, Jonathan Larson died the day after RENT opened not a few weeks

  • I got my facts from Anthony Rapp's (the oringinal Mark) autobiography, which said that he died before he ever got to see the phenomenon his masterpiece would become (i.e. just before it opened). I didn't check anywhere else, so I may be wrong.

  • And the song is called "Only the Good Die Young" I can't change the words of the song to "sometimes the good die young but sometimes the bad die young as well and not everyone who is good dies when they are young and some of the good ones die when they are old as well". It's symbollic, that was all it was ever meant to be. I never intended to imply that all the older people that die are not good or that everyone who dies one is good. Please.

  • A note from the maker of this video: Yes, I know that it's not only the good that die young, and this is a tribute to all those good people who have died, from the famous ones to the ones who mean a lot to us personally (friends, family etc.) And I will not defend my decision about who I have included in the video; these are MY heroes, they are the people that mean a lot to me, and I know that it won't be the same for everybody.
