Quick video compare against the ENO slap strap and how to use regular webbing, a steel ring and 2 knots (water knot & clove hitch) to get the same result when trying to hang your hammock.

  • The eno system was my first hammock....I had to grind down the biners because the metal on the clasp was so rough cut that I could never get them through the loop of the strap. I eventually tossed them tho, as they were way heavier than they needed to be... I picked up some nice climbing biners that weighed less than a quarter of the eno stock ones. good vid! thanks!

  • @WetPaddles hey good to hear from you! I haven't seen an upload from you in a while. Yeah those default biners are pretty much overkill. I'd like to get a warbonnet at some point :)

  • This may be a silly question...but if I'm using doubled up 4mm cord, can the clove hitch still be used like you've shown here?

  • @rlmarin1968 yeah it should work fine. I haven;t tried it, but I imagine that there would be some slippage until the rope would bite. But I guess at a certain weight it will slip no matter what. I only have a 3mm cord here, but let me know how it works out!

  • The water knot works great for the initial loop, but an easier way to make your second loop (the one you clip the hammock to) would be to use a figure eight on a bight.

  • @MrGreenjeep97 I'll give that a try on my next outing, thanks for the tip!

  • just double wrap the eno and your problems are solved! NO MORE SAG!

  • @thecyr: I'll let you know how it works out. I will have to wait until my broken finger hearls, which would line up nicely for a early 2012 outing.

  • I've had that "water knot" and the clove hitch both slip using polyester webbing.

On the loop end I just use a figure 8 knot and on the other end I suggest a marlin spike hitch with whoopie slings; much less metal to carry.

  • Good stuff man 5/5 :o)
