2007 Mystics of Time MOT Mardi Gras Parade, Mobile, Alabama slide show. These are lo-res photos and are part of a set of photo albums from our website at www.domsoto.com. They aren't supposed to be high art, just a little vignette of life during carnaval at the corner of Washington and Dauphin Streets.

  • @2hottric I was referring to Mardi Gras as it is celebrated in the United States today, all along the Gulf Coast.

  • @MardiGrasMobile mardi gras is a french name ok like i said it started in france and made its way to new olreans u better check ur history

  • @MardiGrasMobile Lol, undercover LSU fan, don't let your Mobile, Alabama peeps know, shhhh! .......later

  • @nola305 I was also pulling for the Tigers in that one. And I'm DEFINITELY pulling for the Saints to go all the way! WHO DAT!!!

  • @MardiGrasMobile I'm currently living in Houston, Tx. but maybe going to Galveston's MG celebration on the "Island". May visit Mobile for their MG, i pass through Mobile sometimes whenever i travel east. I notice that Government Street reminds me of St. Charles Ave. in New Orleans........Have fun at "your" mardi gras....WHO DAT (btw, i'm STILL smarting from that "wallop" Alabama put on my LSU, lol

  • @nola305 In my attempts to lure out-of-town friends in for a visit, I have often described Mobile as "a smaller, safer, and admittedly more redneck version of New Orleans", lol.

All I can say is, "Yall ready for Mardi gras?"

  • @MardiGrasMobile No harm, lol. I have a tendency to "brag" about my town. Mobile and New Orleans are "sister cities" and the similarities are very apparent albeit some traditions and customs (outside of mardi gras) may be different. I would like to also say that Mobile's MG celebration is "safer" than N.O. unfortunately, and i would feel better celebrating it there (Mobile) for that main reason, and afterwards going back to N.O. I want to collect some throws from Mobile for my collection also.

  • @nola305 First off, I want to apologize if I sounded confrontational in my original comment, it was not my intent to belittle New Orleans or its native residents. I love New Orleans, truly.

In the 60s, N.O. decided to make an effort to market themselves to tourists, not to mention that N.O. is about 10x the size of Mobile. I like to think of N.O. as the center of Gulf Coast culture, with ripples spreading out from there. Meaning, the further you get from N.O., the more diluted it becomes.

  • @MardiGrasMobile Of course you eat "all the stuff" (N.O. cuisine), It's GOOD! I don't think New Orleanians have to think their city is unique, just check stats (google "most UNIQUE American city"), it's a consensus of people in the U.S. and abroad. Do i have to list all of the things that make "us" unique, there's not enough space here to do so, just google "NEW ORLEANS" and read the info, it goes on and on. Another thing, mention N.O. to most ppl, they're familiar, mention Mobile, (???) get it?

  • @nola305 You realize we eat all that stuff here too, right? New Orleans is great, but it probably isn't as unique as most New Orleanians like to think it is.
