So as i mentioned my doctor (naturopath) put me on 1grain of natrurethroid medication & took it for two weeks with increasing heart issues then stopped cause it was getn worse! I am still waiting for them to go away. I read online a lot of people have that issue & it might be cause of the fillers in the meds.. or sensativity to thyroid meds etc.. I tried levothyroxine for 6months & that put my tsh down but am scared cause i hear bad things about those meds too. What do u reccomend?

I'm confused now. I read another view online that Hashimoto's is not an autoimmune problem but a thyroid problem. Dr. Haskell sais that because your thyrod has some deficiency it's not able to make hormones and so there for the TSH goes up and causes the destruction of the thyroid cell which intern causes the cell to leak its components and then that is when the anti bodies attack your thyroid. What are your thoughts on this..

Yep YEP AND YEP ON THE IODINE!! Thank you for being informed!! I avoid iodine like the plague right now. I have hashi's and everytime I have seaweed (those dry sheets in asian stores used for rolling sushi as a snack) I feel like I've been hit by a truck- it causes a major hashi's flareup for me and I can barely get out of bed for several hours and feel so awful and dizzy. I'm so glad you're mentioning it because there's so much incorrect info out there.

wow, never heard about the bpa thing before. is bpa in most plastics? now i wonder if a bad habit i had as a kid is to blame for my hypothyroidism. I used to chew on the caps of pens till they were totally mutilated.

I have hashimotos and goiter ...I don't take iodine, never have.
Thank you so much for your videos Dr Clark, very informative!! I was diagnoised with Hashimotos in Feb last year. My major symptom was(and still is) rapid hairloss.Currently my thyroid levels are still not balanced as i keep swinging from hyper to hypothyroidism. My question is.. in your opinion, what are the ideal thyroid functional levels for the TSH T4 etc? Also will my hairloss stop and regrowth occur once my levels have balanced out on the currect dosage of levothyroxine? please help :D xx

@MegaJOO123 TSH 1.8 to 3.0 ; Total T4 6-12 ; Total T3 100-180 ; Free T4 1.0-1.5 ; Free T3 2.0 -3.0 ; T3U 2-38
The hairloss ;may continue even with "balanced" levels. You need to determine if you have Hashimoto's or one of the other 23 causes of Low thyroid.

Thanks for the update. What do you think about "gluten theory", gluten and thyroid protein molecular mimicry? Is there scientific proof of this theory? Those Hashi patients who do not develop Celiac`s disease clinically , should still be tested for anti-gliadin ab-ies?

@luckinresidency2011 The genotype for gluten sensitivity and the predisposition to Hashimoto's is the SAME. There's plenty of literature on it. All patients with low thyroid symptoms should be checked for the FULL spectrum of gluten sensitivity, not just alpha-gliadin, and not simply for Celiac findings such as positive biopsy or TTG antibodies or Anti-endomysial antibodies.

ok...just to be clear here. my husband has been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. So should he or should he not take hormone medication? I believe and understand the Iodine theory you mention...but wondering if the medication may have iodine in them. Just want to be safe here on what to prescribe my husband. I am a nurse and very weary of all doctors and their "stone age" treatment plans. I think you are amazing and it is refreshing to hear someone who actually "thinks outside the box" Donna.

@donnadohogne I can't tell you whether or not to take medication...but I can tell you that a person with Hashimoto's will have to have some thyroid hormone support at some point because their thyroid gland is being chewed up and simply can't secret the TSH necessary for good function.
