The House debates the final agreement on the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, H.R. 4040. This landmark, bipartisan legislation takes several key steps to make children and all Americans safer, including essentially eliminating lead from toys and children's products; prohibiting the use of dangerous phthalates in children's toys and child care products; and providing the Consumer Product Safety Commission with significantly greater resources and personnel. Rep. Diana DeGette speaks in favor.

  • You have got to be kidding me! Wake up America! I'm a mother and a small business owner. This law makes it necessary for me to test the ribbons I use to make my children's hair bows with. This is extremely expensive and unnecessary since I already use items deemed lead-free and safe by current industry standards.

Don't let "Made in America" become a thing of the past.

Please let your Representatives know that this law is going to do more harm than good.

  • Handmade toys made from fabric, wood and other inherently safe toys will be illegal to sell now. Thousands of home based and small American businesses will be put out of business. There needs to be a solution for this bad side effect.

  • If Rep Degette loves this bill so much and is taking credit for it's creation, then her seat would be one that needs to be filled by a person who will represent all of us.

  • It would appear, Boys & Girls, that Congress is not listening to us. Maybe it is a time for another change. Rembember, these people work for us. These people were hired by us. And these people can be placed in the unemployment line, if they don't listen to us.
