Continuing to teach my Percheron Toby to shake hands. We started with a rope around his left foot. Now we've progressed to using a wand to tap the outside of his leg to ask him to shake hands. Finally, we've worked our way up to asking for a SHAKE of hands with no rope or wand, just extending my right hand forward and saying SHAKE. One safety consideration here is that the horse may offer to shake even when you don't ask during the session. Toby is trying to please here and he also wants his carrot. A good safety note is to watch out for this "unsolicited" trick! Read more at http://www.igallopon.com.

  • @chrissylove92 >>>>>>>for your info CLICKER training is torture and plain simply St*pid! she gives him a treat which is a good reward....!..human error....yeah youre the human error here! GEEEEEZ did your parents click at you every time you did something good? now tell me how a Clicker is much safer than a carrot?....teaches the same thing!....to not have the problem of the horse strike at you just because and when you didnt ask him...is called change the way you teach them! not the reward!

  • Keep up the good work, great vid!

  • Flippin adorable. I'd hate to be on the receiving end of that hoof if he wanted to get your attention for a treat! xD Awesome trick though!

  • Brava!!! For your trick AND for your lovely, refreshing attitude!!! You AND your horse. :)

  • We got a percheron from a pmu farm in canada. they all closed down and all of the poor horses were destened for slaughter. We bought our Owen before he came down to Texas for slaughter. He came with 28 other horses, and thankfully a rescue took them all in before they left the shelter lot where they were housed over night. Every on of those horses got good homes, but unfortunantly hundreds of horses were sent to slaughter because of the lack of adopters.

  • Such a beautiful horse! I love these big breeds!
