the /hw/ phoneme (vs. the /w/ phoneme) is the original pronunciation.
and many people pronounce the /hw/ sound -- it's much more common than you may think. keep an eye out for it and you'll notice it.
(google search "phonological history of wh" for more info.)
also, i find that i hear it from intellectual people more often. i don't know if it's just me.

OMG! I'm a beginner trying to teach myself how to knit and this has been the best video I've seen so far about how to change colors. Other methods I found online required cutting off string, or making a mess on the 'back side'. This one is just what i was looking for! Thanks for the great video!!! :D
