There's a company from the UK that's just entering the market for tripods, monopods and other supports called Vanguard. Check them out, great build quality, really light carbon fiber materials, and every bit as functional as Gitzo or Manfrotto. You just don't pay for the name, prices are awesome.

Really enjoying all your posts..... It's Balaclava, in case your wondering. -35 Celsius where I am this morning.. Probably need one Is that a ball head on the Mono, or ?? it looks like it takes a plate.

I don't use ball heads on my monopods. Tried one for the first time just a couple of weeks ago with a Sigma 120-300 and it was a mess trying to keep the thing from flopping around when not shooting. No way I'll do that again and no way I'll ever do it with a 400/f2.8. I use lens plates and clamps.

Bogen 680 and 681. About $60 each and rated at more than 20 lbs.
