Kenmore 80 Series washer lid switch access and replacement. Failure of the lid switch will keep the washer from spinning or draining even though it will fill and agitate the laundry. A new switch cost me $40 on Christmas Eve 2010 (yeah, it's fun when a washer breaks -right- then).

  • As I review this post, I see that there is an -excellent- video by RepairClinic on this topic covering the switch replacement. Search for RepairClinic and washing machine lid switch.

  • I'm happy to hear that some folks could benefit from my quick video.

I actually found bits and pieces of this information in other posts and videos, but I didn't find any videos about opening the console, so I posted a quick one.

  • Thank you for creating this video. I was able to take my washer apart, fix the lid switch (my local appliance stores did not have it on hand) and put it back together quickly. Do you have a PayPal account I can drop a few bucks in? You saved me a ton of money from not having to take 1/2 a day off work to pay a guy to come out and fix this. Thanks again, Wendy

  • I can't believe it. This is what Youtube was meant for...It worked. My wash was in the basin full of water for a week....just stick a pencil in the doorswitch and hold it shut with the lid and PRESTO....

  • @rjskoko I just want to thank you soooo much. You have no idea how much you helped out a single parent. I went home, took the washer apart, found the lid switch, detached it and determined that it was just falling apart in the areas where it looked like it was glued together at the factory. Nothing was broken, so I clamped it together, until I can get a really strong glue to reglue it and I put it all back together and viola, it worked. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

  • OMG. what a Godsend. I was going nuts man

  • I just wanted to say thanks for your video. I just replaced the lid switch on my machine. Once I got the housing off like you said the rest was a piece of cake.

  • cont...duck tape to tape it to the open position. I saw someone's note about a zip tie - I rigged a zip tie on each end of switch to keep it in the open position for a quick fix - put it all back together and now it's working. I'll get the part later but needed the water to drain before everything soured. Thanks again for your extremely helpful video. Lots of people are asking about your getting a PayPal account - that's probably very easy - you should do it ... today! Big Smiles!

  • Thank you so much for your video - have never repaired an appliance and was able to! I spoke to a friend who said instead of replacing the switch, they used

  • thank you so much.

  • I know a ton of other people have said thank you, but seriously, thank you. My husband is using a zip tie to fix the switch as I type.

  • Thanks for the video. With your guidance I located the switch in my Whirlpool washer. Just like you said it was the lid switch. Made a temp fix using a zip-tie and got the machine to drain. Wife was REAL happy!

  • Thanks for the video. With your guidance I located my
