  • @riddleman65 And this time, they proved they are human and capable of making oversights and mistakes, not a big deal, and it offered them a new idea for an episode. And for us, car destruction and a free lesson/reminder for those of us who dont use physics every day. (Gravity sucks, i stopped using it after high school tbh...)

  • the answer is the Crumple zone... .... the wall doesn`t have crumple zone... 2 cars have 2 crumple zones

  • well the car test surprised me, but if you take all the impact's force into account and use the formula m*v². the car going 100mph has 4times the force than the one going 50. But 2 cars going 50mph has 2 times the force than one going 50 against a wall. Thats in theory, because there is way more to it.

  • What they seemed to forget, is that the force of the impact between both cars is "Shared". And if you look closely, the cars compacted more than the 50 MPH, but less than the 100 MPH. So my guess, the impact would have been that of an impact to a wall at 75 MPH.

  • so what if he made a mistake if you dont like it then stop watching mythbusters

  • @Troubleshooter11

Sure, I'd expect it to go over some of the heads of everyday folk who haven't looked at a physics text book since highschool. But I'm nothing more than an enthusiast, and I knew right away he was wrong. And HE'S supposed to be the authority figure working on a show that's supposed to know this kind of stuff. I would've even understood if he said it, was corrected, and then went "oh right, now I remember" But they actually had to test it to prove it right. Just do the math.

  • @riddleman65 They do, but i cant say everyone with high school physics lessons would be able to know how big the impact would have been. It's an easily made mistake as the close rate of the cars was 100mph, unless you think about it deeply, you are going to assume that's going to be twice the force. Seriously, how many high school graduates would think of the 3rd law of physics being applicable to this impact and not causing any difference?

  • @Troubleshooter11

It's a shame they don't teach the laws of motion in your country's highschools.

  • @riddleman65 My highschool physics wouldnt have been able to predict this tbh. :P

  • @holokhang991

    What mistake?

  • @vladbcom

He didn't say that, though. All he said was two cars into each other at 50 equals the force of one car at 100 against a brick wall. It's embarrassing that they actually had to test this out instead of just being able to figure out highschool physics.
