What I heard was that Palin did not force women to pay for rape kits individually but tried to get either Medicaid or their insurance companies to pay, which is very different.

I used to support this group (I still have one of their bumper stickers on my car) until they supported Sarah Palin. Alaska has one of the highest rates of sexual assault in the country, and as mayor of Wasilla, Palin made rape victims pay for their own exams. I feel gypped that I ever gave this organization money, they are NOT pro woman!

if you are raped, please report it to the police. even if it never goes to court, it will be on the record of the perp if any other charges are ever brought against them. and it will also make them think twice.

Joyce, I am so proud of you for sharing your story so publicly like this. By speaking out, you extend your "victory over violence" by being an advocate, not a victim. You tell your story in a way that doesn't condemn other women for the choices they have made in similar situations, but which instead portrays compassion and empathy for others, and presents an alternative.
