Martial Eagle Swimming in Pool

Many raptors are very capable swimmers. Many inevitably catch prey in or near the water and, although generally unintentionally, they sooner or later end up going for a swim.

Besides flying, this is a great way for your bird to get some quality exercise. Originally employed by wildlife rehabers working with injured birds of prey, swimming has been shown to help develop a personal relationship and bond with the raptor and helps build confidence and a sense of trust. For falconers and other raptor aficionados, this is an effective manning tool.

must be an immature martial eagle....because the adults dont look like that

This is a sub-adult. The adult martials have a much darker head. She has moulted into much more of her adult plumage since this video was made (last summer), but probably won't reach her full adult coloration for another 12-14 months.
