Wonder Boy III - The Dragon's Trap (Sega Game Gear) - Part 1

Sorry for the delay. I had to fix the audio sync issue and uploads to youtube wouldn't work most of the time. Not sure if Wonder Boy IV will be next or if I might play something else in between so the action fans don't get bored with too much Wonder Boy. Btw, feel free to request a game, preferrably for a console that KEGA Fusion can emulate (GG, SMS, MD/Gen, CD, 32X) because I've got experience with recording games with that emulator.

Now this is the third game in the Wonder Boy series and between the two part IIIs it's the one you want to remember. It's a masterpiece no less.

It starts off where Wonder Boy II - Monster Land left off. You entered the castle of Mecha Dragon in all shiney legendary gear and if you've played that game or watched my playthrough, it will look very familiar. Fortunately, they shortened the castle stage significantly and used it as the intro level.

Once you beat Mecha Dragon it curses you and you become Lizard Man. There, the actual game starts. Your goal is to beat various other dragons to transform into other animals which helps you to eventually beat the last dragon and get the Salamander Cross to remove the curse. The game is quite long, there is much to explore and it strikes the perfect balance between complexity and smooth gameplay. I've played this game so much since I was a kid, I know every pixel in this game, but it still took me 1.5 hours to beat it. The main goal in this playthrough was, however, to show as many secrets and important game elements as possible which took some extra time. I can still enjoy playing this game after all this time which says a lot. I can only repeat myself, it's a masterpiece.

I just remembered that, when I played it as a kid for the first time, I was desperately looking for a key to unlock the door at 3:05 and somehow I still expect the skeleton with the red hat, to drop the key D:<
