Smitten with Merton - I like this - I just started reading No Man is an Island.
it was meaningful for me to read I think he described very well the pickle so
many of us find ourselves in. To give love we must know ourselves and love ourselves by giving love we learn about ourselves and how to love ourselves.
Academic studies on spiritual matters are tricky as too much analysis can burn
up the comfort and unity we so crave.

Nazareth College of Rochester offers a course on Thomas Merton taught by Christine M. Bochen. She is a founding member of the International Thomas Merton Society and coauthored "The Thomas Merton Encyclopedia" with William H. Shannon and Patrick F. O'Connell.

Although I would not call myself a Christian, I think I still may understand what you mean by "mertonitis"; his writings seem to convey something very authentic and powerful that I cannot describe but have found that I nonetheless enjoy. May your life be blessed, friend.
