Is that normal that he fires like once every 5 sec? is he really running that slow (rev/min?) or are there only a few backfires?

Tim You Did a Very nice job. It sounds GREAT! You can be proud of that one! Wendell

Actually it is not that quiet. Once it is started and he turns the decompression off, it really cracks when it fires. My camera's automatic volume control cuts the loud sounds off so quick they sound like a click. Same thing happens when I video a hit and miss engine or firecrackers, etc.
Aside from that it is a real experience to see this tractor run. Tim and Jim done a fabulous job of restoring this 100 year old tractor. Hats off to them!

This tractor was filmed in Albion, Nebraska, on the Tim and Jim O'Brien farm.

Where was this beautiful tractor filmed?
Guzzist11,
The governor ,on old engines, would hold the exhaust valve open to control the speed. Instead of throttle governed, it was "hit and miss". The breathing in and out through the exhaust also helped cool it. When under a load it would fire more often to keep the speed up. "Hit & Miss" or "Spit & Pop" is a common term used by old engine buffs, for this type of engine. Old one cylinder Maytag engines were 2 cycle and cut off the ignition to control the speed.
