  • stupid question: I am not sure where the "base of my neck" is? measuring from the place on my neck where the button would touch measures 26.5 to the middle of my palm, measuring from the end of the slope of my neck (just before the shoulder) I measure 25 inches to the center of my palm. help!

  • Measure to where the violin or viola would contact -- frankly though I'm surprised theres that much variance between the bottom of your neck and the contact point.

  • @Imagine1350 Your fingers look just slightly shorter than mine, but I think you can handle it pretty well. I´ve originally wanted to buy smaller viola than I´ve actually get, but I´m happy with it. I´m a bass player though, so my fingers are used to be stretched. If yours extra 0.9 inches makes you feel more comfortable, go for it.

  • I measure for a 15" Viola. However, the viola that I really want is 15.9". Would it be too far of a stretch or to physically straining to play an instrument that is 0.9" larger than what I measure?

  • thx alot

  • so whats the difference between a violin and a viola and if your arms measurements pass the violin chart do you have to get a viola? please respond as soon as you read this

  • Sorry 5 foot 2

  • Also, there was a person that sais she could easily play a size 16 viola when she was only foot 2 online. Do you believe her?

  • What is the average least amount of height someone usually is to be able to play a 16 and a half size viola. Also, on a certain website it says the average age to be able to play the biggest size viola is 14 years old. What are your opinions on this?

  • I am a 5'3 tall guy, my violin is a 3/4 sized. Don't you think it is funny to see me playing a 3/4 sized violin? I can't afford to buy a new full-size violin today. and I'll be playing my violin with my band mates on a wedding soon. LOL

  • @Vaylemn well, actually i just bought by violin a few weeks ago, :) im happy with it and im learning to play really good too! this helped me find tthe size for me. THANKYOU!!

  • @mylife1216 Get a Viola, it is like a mix between Cello and Violin. Viola is still more portable. Try to buy it from Sharmusic, because Googling results will recommend either Sharmusic or violinlovers.
