I put this online because it should serve as an informational video to anyone doing wingovers or loops. I felt very comfortable doing wingovers and never had any scares before. For this one, I was planning to do a wingover to the right. I had enough speed but immediately after initiating the wingover (which I did a little to abrupt), my body was swung to the left which stopped the wing from turning and sent me more into a loop than into a wingover. I didn't have enough speed for that, or didn't realize my error quickly enough and the result is what you can see.
I'm not proud of this. I probably was overconfident and made a stupid error, which I didn't correct fast enough.
A big thank you to Metamorfosi and Woody Valley, the chute-harness combination worked very well.
Enjoy flying. Stay within your own limits.

  • It's a shame we can't see what happened after you let go of the steering bar. I also wonder how you were able to safely glide down at that speed?

When I saw you let go I thought "that's it, he's going to plummit to the ground now". Glad you made it out of there alive - and hopefully unharmed!

  • @BF2CCre8or94 I was hanging below the glider and deployed the rescue chute. That put me in the trees with a slow descent rate (still fast, but by far not as fast as without the chute). I was unharmed and there was some damage to the gilder's sail, but the frame was intact.

  • I don't think aerobatics is a good idea in a weight shift wing because

the glider hang loop and harness straps are not rigid. You get unloaded on the wing and you loose the CG point then the glider is out of balance. I wished someone would invent a rigid tube to replace the harness mains and hook it up like a light trike does. 2nd point: do not let go of the bar!

  • @soar8hours I don't think you want to have a rigid tube when you fly through turbulences! You would at least need some damping there.

About not letting go of the bar: you try to hold on, I tried as hard as I could.

  • well, i just came from a vid by hangman360 who was doing wingovers at about 100 feet altitude. would have ended badly. I think it's cool that you put this out there and i will try to keep your advice in mind in the air. im still a bit scared of doing fast turns let alone wingovers. ive seen a guy slip a turn on final and go straight down into a boggy marsh. he'd have been dead if it weren't for the 3 feet of water he landed in. stay on the safe side!

  • Thanks for sharing - all the best.

  • That was real scary, glad to know you're safe.

  • lucky to have parachute !!!

  • @ElroyHarvey I wasn't to slow in the beginning. I probably had 110 km/h. But I let it slow down too much...

  • @IBinADrochnFljiga Oh ok but you say in the description you did not have enough speed for a loop only a wingover.

Anyway im so glad this turned out ok in the end and that other people can learn from this video, im starting HG this summer and although i know it will be a whilst before i start doing aeros i am sure that i will eventually.

Thnx for posting the video and the reply.
