This was an assignment for my 3D Simulations and Illustration class. The assignment was to create an animation showing a carbon nano tube destroying a cancer cell when activated by infrared light. Copyright 2009 Jaeson Jrakman.

  • So basically, what I am getting from this is that you push a nano tube into a cancer cell, then shine infra-red light on the cell and explode the nano tube and the cell. How can you target a single cell? Because if you don't you will destroy healthy cells. Please reply if you can answer my question.

  • @GSG1298 I'm afraid you'll have to ask a biologist and/or a nano-technology engineer for further details. My professors merely gave me a scenario to animate.

  • @GSG1298 You could administer the nanotubes locally, or direct them to tumor cells with the help of biotechnologies and the so-called targeted delivery. Nanotubes can be functionalised, indeed, in order to reach specific target before they get irradiated. I can tell because I recently graduate with a thesis on innovative drug delivery systems (DDSs). =)

  • @GalbertReloaded Thanks!

  • I don't understand, the tubes explode when exposed to infrared light?

  • Amazing !!!!

  • Very enjoyable thank you

  • @GSG1298 (Continued) Current chemotherapies are terrificly tossic, and that's why "alternative doctors" get appealing for some people. I must tell that some of their ideas are scientifically proven, so there's some truth in their speeches. Please refer to the marvellous book "Anticancer" by David Servan-Schreiber for a honest evaluation of the impact of food and emotions, I'm try to spread as well as nanotechnology! This is something really a few people now...

  • @GSG1298 You're welcome, thanks for your compliments! ;]

I'd really like to help nanotherapy of cancer and nanomedicine in general become reality in the future, even if some applications already reached the clinics (with substantial costs, I must admit). If properly developed, it can be for sure a therapeutic possibility; scientists must convince the big pharmas that this is a field worth investing, possibly with strong evidence of efficacy and safety for the patient. (Continues)

  • @GalbertReloaded Ahh thanks for the info. Well done on graduating too, very noble field of work. In your opinion, when developed, is this a likely/possible cure for cancerous cells?

  • hmm and yet they want to make a space elevator out of this where there is billions of infrared light waves
