I was in the right place at the right time one sunny day in Oregon. I was at the foot of beautiful blue Koosah Falls, when somebody told me that the group I had walked past a little up the trail was scoping out the waterfall, preparing for Evan Garcia's plunge. So camera in hand, I positioned myself and took advantage of my timing and placement.
@smauk2 please explain - how am I an idiot for caring about your good health? those who care about you are idiots?

@aria230: There are a few reasons for the paddle throw. First: If your running something 60+ feet tall, you're hitting the water HARD, hard enough to snap paddles, or at least snap your paddle into your face. Second, throwing the paddle lets you tuck tighter so you can reach around your boat and grab the bottom on both sides, protecting your skirt from implosion and your back from compression. If you're twisted to one side when you hit, higher chance of hurting yourself.

i've seen people throw paddles while running drops a few times now and i'm wondering if there is a need to do this? other than fun? Why cant you just tuck it away to the side?
