[SOLUTION] it was a failed MAF sensor (Mass Airflow Sensor), + a small vacuum leak in the intake pipe where i had previously drilled a hole to relocate the IAT (Intake Air Temperature sensor). Problem resolved after replacing the MAF and sealing up the minor leak in the intake pipe.

[PROBLEM]
Here is my Miata LS year 2001 model at a standstill. As you see, the idle is getting really sporadic. The car would even stall sometimes. This happens maybe 20% of the time, other times the car is actually running very smoothly.

Battery is 10 years old as well as the timing belt. Just changed to a new air intake temperature sensor per engine code / check light that i got earlier, but the problem still persists.

Any pointers?

  • @Carlosv0321 thanks for the comment - yeah for a 94, i'd say check the coil packs which are known for failures. Wet days mean there is more moisture in the air, which may exacerbate the problem?

  • Same thing is happening to me. It only happens in the wet though. I would also like some info on this problem . I was told to check the plugs and wires. Also told it may be the coil packs, mine is a 94 though.
