@TheWalrus469 True dubstep wasn't about that killer edgy sound...it was dub with a 2 step beat...heavy wobbles and all lows with a beat. This new stuff is fun for a time but there's so much run of the mill crap out there.
Glitch hop is where it's at. Raw, edgy, no pretending just let the speakers blow your mind awesomeness.

edIT is absolutely a genius, he could honestly make music with a toaster and it would still sound new and cutting edge.

@GarenDJ Honestly, a lot of the problem is that dubstep--in my opinion--was always a sort of gimmick that relied on the novelty of "HOLY SHIT THAT'S BASSY". That's fine in moderation, and I loved that--feeling my head shake and all that. But once you get down to it, there's not that much you can do with a modulated bass line anymore. That's why glitch hop--esp. TGM and edIT--appeals to me now, b/c it's so layered--like an electronic kickass symphony...that requires talent as a DJ to create.

you hit it exactly. To many kids producing uninspired crap, all sounding exactly the same. edIT and the Mob had a vision and a goal behind their sounds. Glitch Hop is going to blow up soon.

@GarenDJ I would agree. Dubstep is really hit-or-miss these days--I used to love it, but what you have now is hundreds of kids with pirated copies of FruityLoops making the same damn wubby shit. Even the good DJ's are starting to mix-n'-match their old beats into new songs, and it just gets tiring. Dubstep needs to die for about 5-10 years until some original stuff comes up.
-
@GarenDJ Hah no kidding the word dubstep makes me fucking embarrassed now =(

Theres a few talented aritsts in every genre, including dubstep. Reso, Kode9, Mala, Skream, Burial, Zomby. But there is wayyy more garbage. 99% of dubstep now isnt even dubstep, its a shitty warped version of itself ment to appeal to top 40 club kids. I have YET to find a single glitch hop artist that has diminished his/her sound.
-
@GarenDJ Yeah but it blatantly wasn't the post-dilla / glitch-hop / whatever you want to call it beat scene that we know today. It's also completely unrelated. I really don't see how calling Mala, Skream, Burial et al the 'retarded brother of a superior genre' is relevant at all to this music or this video. That's why his comment irked me.

Glitch has been around since the 80s. It didn't sound like this, but it was there.
What would Christmas morning be without edIT?
