Senator Patty Murray today called up a homeless women veterans bill on the Senate floor but it was blocked by Senate Republicans. The bill was introduced in June of 2009 and passed the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee on January 28, 2010 with strong bi-partisan support.

"I am deeply disappointed that Senate Republicans continued to put politics above people and blocked my bill that would provide support for homeless women veterans and their families," said Senator Patty Murray. "This is a bipartisan, common-sense bill that would support veterans in my home state of Washington and across the country. I am going to continue fighting for it to pass. And I urge Senate Republicans to end their obstruction and allow homeless women veterans across the country to get the support they have earned."

  • Repubs are against abortion, grow up and the kids sent to war by the repubs, come home and the repubs kick them to the curb. What a way of saying thank you for serving.

  • It will take YEARS to recover from all the damage that the Republicans have done.

  • @withersterry....your a veteran my ass. If you were you would understand that someone who puts their life on the line for our country only deserves the best. These aren't people who were losers. These are brave people who volunteered to put the Uniform and serve their country. Now we should serve them by making sure they never go homeless--Even if it means we go broke as a nation. To let them rot on the streets is no way to treat our BRAVE Men and Women.

  • I was homeless for two years. If your homeless and have to beg to eat then you are in bad bad shape...there are too many places that will feed you to go hungry. Quit whining and blaming the republicans...grow some balls and use the brain God gave you to get our of your homelessness and self-pity. And Washington state...you elected this hack so vote her out if you don't like her.

  • Patty Murray always falls back to the "woman" defense. Her fellow state senator, Maria Cantwell (also a Democrat), is far more pragmatic and fights for US citizens equally. Not just a select group of people, like Murray typically does. The true signifying element of a good senator to me is one who does not play race or gender cards, but fights for everyone - one and all. I'd vote for Maria Cantwell in a heartbeat, but Murray is always drumming up some sob-story and pandering to some group.

  • @1998bc Excuse me but, I believe it was a Republican President who gave the military the highest pay raise ever! It's one thing taking an oath to defend this country against all foreign and domestic but, to do it and then get out of the military and expect your next door neighbor to support you for the rest of your life is something altogher different. No body owes you! Unless you were wounded and now disabled but other than that, no body twisted your arm or put a gun to your head. Stop whinnin

  • Where is our politicians which we have wrote and they do nothing. we have the government NPRC, VA losing our reocords and admit it then we are denied by the VA for compensation because there is no records. They are intentally losing records, so they do not have to give compensation. Right now I been wait 5 years because the NPRC lost and admits loosing my reocords, i have been denied from the VA and now I wait for the VA appeals board another 3 year wait.

  • Any homeless veteran who is disabled or injured as a result of their honorable service to this country can now hire his / her own attorney and SUE the US Government in Federal District Court. Please see the Web site for Veterans For Constitutional Law, Ltd. and READ ABOUT YOUR RIGHTS. Have your attorney contact us and we will brief him on how to proceed.

  • well, if we weren't broke from all these 'stimulus' packages, we might be able to help more people. I've been homeless..it sucked. I'd like to see more of our people...NOT OUR GOVERNMENT..take care of each other. The government can't solve all of our problems.

  • "If you don't like being homeless, why don't you get an education, get a decent job and make something of yourself instead of complaining and looking for hand outs".

Those are the words of a Christian Conservative. Aren't they uplifting?

I only hope YOU never have to suffer dire poverty or unexpected unfortunate calamity. You're like those fire fighter watching a family's house burn down. "They didn't pay their fee, tough shit!".

How do you right wingers live with yourselves?

  • @GreggRyan And their whole platform now is based on denying that fact and demanding Obama fix everything in full no later than last Thursday.

  • @1998bc I just want to know WTF republicans are thinking. Screw over Veterans? Young Vets, coming home from war? Really, have they not seen the 50 cal videos posted on you tube. Are they really that fuking stupid? At least we know why the Rep from Oklahoma had that other guy read his objection, he didnt want his face plastered on this BS
