I heard the screeching tires and the impact from my office, and grabbed the camcorder.

Day-amn! This graduate of the Lance Briggs School of Hi-Performance Driving had hit the retaining wall so hard, it sheared the spokes right off the rim of one of the wheels. Steel and rubber doughnut, anyone?

Clear, dry road, gentle curve, wide, well-marked lanes, beautiful, mild 50-degree Friday morning -- how do they continue to do it? Oh, well, as long as they do, you'll see it here first.

I'll let you be surprised with --- the REST --- of the story. Watch, enjoy, and if you're feeling a little schadenfreude for a Vette owner with too much money and too little common sense, you're human.

  • Watched the whole video. Flat beds are not freeway trucks. That truck there, is the ones for freeway patrol services. They are there to remove cars out of the freeway. Not to tow you home. And its your fault your car breaks down or crash so don't complain about damage.

  • @Leduan81 First of all, if it's done properly, moving a car off the expressway shouldn't rip apart the rear fascia, as happened here. Second, you're not seriously suggesting that expressway breakdowns are the owner's fault, are you? Cars stop working, Leduan. That's why carmakers offer warranties. That's why every car has either a spare tire and jack or, in the Corvette's case, run-flat tires. And that's why I have a AAA membership, so IDOT never gets near my car.

  • Where was this by??? Montrose Outbound or Inbound?? Cant tell...

  • @Breze84 It was in the inside southbound express lane of the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-90/94), just north of 47th St.

  • Surely that's not the correct way to tow a 3 wheeled car - let alone a corvette?!

  • @snoozinghipo This is exactly the wrong way, and it's the reason that anybody who cares about their car at all has a Motor Club membership so they don't have to deal with IDOT if something does happen.

  • @chevyv8350 No, I meant IDOT. Illinois Department Of Transportation. That's the state agency that operates those yellow Minutman tow trucks.

  • Looks like he wasnt trained on the correct way to tow low profiled sports cars, especially using a BIG ass tow truck to begin with, i mean call out a flat bed or put some wheel dollies on the front to rise it up of the ground ?? But i guess thats why MOST tow companies are inssured for idiots driving for them like this

  • Would of been better just pushing it home...

  • @artistmac. You right. If done properly you won't damage anything. First the tow driver needs assistance from highway patrol (trooper) to perform without fear. I am in this type of job and we always request assisttance

  • It's on the freeway. The driver just did that just to get the car out of there. And do it better outside the freeway. Driver are risking their life there so a car that's totalled isn't worh their life.

  • wow... just wow...

  • That is an "amazing" video. =p

  • isnt that the danryan if so accidents happen all the time on that freeway

  • This was a lousy tow job. The driver did not secure the steering wheel, Did not have the care secured to the wheel lift, He had the car too high for the front end & this should have went on a flat bed.

Now I don't know if he was an experienced driver or not, but he's sure got some explaining to do.

  • See, this is why you don't buy those cheap ass rims.
