Saw Jackson in Nashville and Chattanooga on the latest solo acoustic tour and got to hear this for the first couple times ever. It bothers me when people say his music is "too political" because it's a close-minded reaction and what is music about if not stimulating our hearts and minds? Whether or not you agree with the message, modern music is in dire need of another Jackson Browne. Of course there's only one and he never stopped writing great songs. This is like Neil Young, but cooler!

Jackson always sings from his heart, and always has something positive to say!

Everyone has the right to express their opinions i any peaceful way they want, so Jackson has every right to sing about his belifs. If you like it listen if not, nobody is making you lsiten, or go out and write songs about your point of view.

When you compare this song with "lives in the balance", about another war, more than twenty years ago, it's eery, the similarities...

our vicious past can be seen in the murderous beasts of the planet. Of course we forgive the animals since they are well...animals, and train them to fight to the death, is it any worse than meat packing?
If history is any example, the murder will continue until morale improves. Yet as hope may flower we know that there is enough consciousness on the earth to change this ancient and eternal meme of life because we have dreamed of more and we can. Nothing is more constant than change.

The Military-Police occupation employed in Iraq is the perfect fascist fantasy of total control gone completely wrong. It is the Military Industrial Complex rebranding campaign with a new FUD posterboy (Islamic Terrorism), required by the fall of the previous FUD postergirl, communism. There have always been terrorists and thieves in the world, murderous gangs of thugs, usually in the employ of the either rich people or governments.

do you people actually think if we pull out of iraq tomorrow and hide in our homes that muslim extremist will not continue to wage their war on you the infidel? this song is like dylan alright, only on stupid pills. you all forget, the only reason we have freedoms is because of wars.. that's the ugly truth

Sure war is ugly, like how humanity embraces war seeking moral certitude and gets perpetual war machines. No one wants to hide in their homes, you are just sowing Fear Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD). People want to embrace the world and live in peace and prosperity, and travel the world and enjoy each other's wines. The most basic freedom this country was founded on was freedom from foreign occupation.
